How many calories in rosé wine? Understand wine calories
Calories in wine come from their alcohol and sugar content. Out of these two components, the alcohol content has the greatest influence on the calories in wine. Alcohol alone adds 7 calories per gram while sugar adds 4 calories per gram; Therefore, if we want to have a quick estimate of the calories of wine, we simply have to look at the back label of a wine bottle to find the alcohol content, which is expressed as a percentage of the volume %ABV. If the percentage is higher than 12%, we may assume the wine is high in calories. It also makes sense to say that dry wines have a higher calory content than sweet-tasting wines. Also, beware of sweet-tasting wines with a high alcohol content that result from added sugars and long fermentations; these guys are not diet-friendly.
How do calories in organic wines compare to conventional wines
Organic wines like BORN ROSÉ Barcelona have fewer calories when compared to conventional wines. This is because no additional sugars are added during the fermentation process and the yeast consumes only the natural sugars within the grapes. The resulting wine is low in alcohol and has fewer residual sugars left from the fermentation.
How to calculate rosé wine calories? Let´s do the math!
To get a more precise estimate of the calories in our wine, we also need to monitor the sugar contents. As you may reasonably think by now, we need to sum up the calories from the sugar and alcohol contents in our wine to get the total calories per serving. A quick and easy formula to calculate the calories is %ABV x ounces x 1.6 = calories. A typical wine glass serving has around 6oz (170 ml) of our favorite rosé and assuming a 12% ABV, the total calories would be 115.
The formula works really well for dry and organic wines with low sugar content. however, For sweet wines, we may need to add the calories from the sugar. This is done by multiplying the sugar level per volume (g/L) x serving volume (L) x calories per gram of sugar. For example, 50 g/L x 0.175L (6oz) x 4 = 35 calories from carbohydrates.
